Improvement!

Distance: 12 miles

Pace: 8:31 min/mi
Elevation gain: 795 feet

Longer than last week, with more elevation gain, covering the same route (and then more) yet at a faster pace. It was a good day. Not sure if its my brand new Saucony Ride 6 or the training finally kicking in, but this was definitely an improvement.

P.S. For the first time I saw something besides deers: a fisher running down a tree (something like this) and a pileated woodpecker.

20 is cold

Dist.: 6 mi
Pace: 9:28 min/mi
Elevation gain/loss: 363 feet

First real cold run. 20 degrees this Sunday in the Catskills. Between the cold and the wind I had tears running down my face early on. The first 2.5 miles were very difficult. In fact, I kind of quit at that point, turning around before my planned mid-point. At mile 3 I put on some music, the sun started to shine on me between the trees, and I felt energized. My pace started getting better. When I was back home, I decide to keep going to reach my 6 miles goal. Looking back at the data, the first part involved about 200 feet of elevation, that probably explains part of the sluggish feeling.

Now I have to increase my distance every week to be ready for http://www.nyrr.org/races-and-events/2014/fred-lebow-manhattan-half.

Back in action

Distance: 5.75 miles
Pace: 9:17 min/mi
Elevation (gain/loss): 430 feet

Back has been very problematic. Stopped running for 11 days. Did burpees for a while (very slowly and in small sets), but took 3 days off. Back felt twitchy at the start, but I felt ok by the end. My cardio on the other end...

52 burpees.

Post-conference run

Distance: 4 miles
Pace: 8:35 min/mi.
Elevation (gain/loss): 195 feet

Back in Stone Ridge. Run was downhill for the first 2 miles, then flat for the third. Pace was 8 min/mi for the first 2 and 8:35 for the third. The last mile is the tough one, with at one point 135 feet of elevation in 1/2 a mile. That one went down at 9:43. Still not the fastest guy in town, but I nonetheless feel good about the continued improvements.

20 burpees so far today.
