Tough Night

Jess and I headed to PG and I must admit that for some reason I thought I would do well tonight: not. Nothing worked out. We did the following:

JS: 5.9, 5.10a, 5.10b, 5.10c (multiple takes), 5.10c (2 takes), 5.10c (multiple takes)
GF: 5.11a, 5.11b (1 take), 5.12b (multiple takes), 5.12a (1 take), 5.11d (multiple takes)

The first 12 made me look retarded and really tired me out. The 11b and 12a felt like I should have done clean. The last climb (11d) was a slab which I thought would be good but I was miserable, it was really a pain.

Jess is clearly improving but for some reason she struggled a bit tonight. She could really do all the moves but would sometime get stumped and needed to start fresh to do it.

Climbing lots lately, how're the arms holding up?

I better knock on wood but so far so good. I think what really helped is the fact that I climb with someone who climbs a few grades below me and thus at first I climbed easier stuff than when I am with you guys and my arms slowly got used to this.

But I can't really see improvements in my climbing yet... a bit frustrating.

Sounds like you've been doing a lot of climbing, must be in good shape.

G, where do you see your weaknesses as? Have you taken a look at the Self-coached Climber? Great book, makes lots of suggestions as far as programming your workouts.

I have it if you can wait (can lend it to you the next time you're back in town), or maybe you can pick up a copy and check it out. EMS out here carries it, I think, REI should too...

I looked at the book, thanks for the suggestion.

I seem to have difficulties learning to be more efficient. So often I'll fall on some hard move, but then after a short break I can do the move relatively easily. So I guess either I increase my power-endurance or start climbing smarter...
