The Hangover

Went climbing at TRC with Eric and Guillaume yesterday. Still feeling the effects of a late night out with the Portuguese-speaking contingent, it was tough going for me. Warmup (8) felt okay, but the minute I stepped it up a bit to a 9+ (black) it went down hill. Tough moves with oddly placed clips, around the column in the front and over the roof. Took a few runs up it but couldn't finish off the moves past the roof, though G sent it in one go. Followed up with a few runs up the roof route with the iron cross (10, black) - eventually used Guillaume's beta to paw blindly around the lip for the move after the cross, but didn't have the energy to get up and past. Eric put in some good work getting back his lead head on a bunch of 8's, with a focus on careful controlled climbing and looking out for feet before moving up. G and Ms. Psst were sending routes all over the gym, think they worked the doubled roof 10 (teal) that B and I hit the last time around, the tricky orange 11 with hard moves off the ground (the crotch belay route), and the orange 11 up the underside of the arch and roof. Pssst made everything look easy as usual...

Also discussed some drawbacks to yoyoing the same routes repeatedly, mostly involving too few of a variety of moves. Am considering mixing it up a bit, maybe one or two project routes a night on different terrains.

We discussed literature on the way back - see what happens when JK and Brian don't show up? Guillaume in particular had this to say (paraphrased just a wee bit):
" I like big books and I cannot lie.
You other brothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist,
and a big tome in her face...."

You are not paraphrasing at all my good man, if I remember correctly, I even added:

I aint talkin bout kinlde
Cuz electronic parts were made for toys
I wannem real thick and geeky

As for the climbing, my first 3 were OK (the 8, 9+, and 10); but the following two I failed on (11 and 10). Miss Pssst kicked ass.

And KL is exaggerating, he did pretty good on the 9+ considering he went first and that it was a real stiff 9+.

That 9+ is one of the most awkward climbs there!
