Not the WOD...

I thought about the doing the CrossFit WOD, but after arriving and warming up and showing Kenway my clean form it became clear I wasn't nearly ready for clean and jerk at 7x1. So, instead, I decided to do some OHS as they seemed to help my squat form and I'll mix in some fronts soon. We met another CrossFitter at Coles today. While Kenway and I were discussing form he started watching and added some helpful advice. Turns out he's also been converted recently. Perhaps we'll see him commenting on the blog at some point.

Warmup:
Barbell complex 45#
10 kipping pullups
1x5 OHS 65#

Cleans for form:
practiced with the bar and at 65#, 95# and then switched to just working on the lift-a-shrug at 135#

Workout:
5x5 OHS (65, 75, 85, 95, 100)

Cooldown:
2x15 kipping pullups
1x15 pushups

These felt pretty good and I could probably up the weight some, but it was my first set of OHS in a while. (Compare with 071809 and 031309.) I think I'll work the OHS and fronts in regularly to try to get my back form up. Perhaps I can get some professional coaching from Dr Lau on how to do cleans and snatches.

Re: lower back rounding - check out this Invictus post and this CF board thread.

Three things come to mind:
1) make sure you set up correctly
2) maintain tight core and glutes
3) proper application of power

The fact that you can hold the proper lower back extension with the OHS suggests that it's not really a flexibility issue.
