Warm-up:
good mornings
back squat
hang clean + push jerk + split jerk (to 135#)
7x1 clean (135,155,2x165,175,185,195)
3x3 back squat (low-bar; 225)
2x3 broad jump (up a slight incline; 97-100")
Supposed to be heavy squats today, but my hip is not feeling well. I have no problem O-lifting (anything which requires vertical squatting), so I suspect it's a few too many grinding reps using the low-bar position. Gonna switch to fronts squats for a bit.

Big clean numbers, B.
How do you like lifting in specialized shoes? Thinking of getting a pair...
Lifting shoes are useful for providing stability. This is important for landing in the O-lifts and for providing a solid platform to push from in the slow lifts. Rip wrote a section in his book on the utility of lifting shoes. I think it's the only piece of equipment he universally recommends.
Note the different heel heights for different brands and models; some people need taller heels due to inadequate flexibility for very deep squats.
I was thinking about that, my flexibility isn't great but I'd rather work on it than teach myself to lift without it. It's not the highest thing on my priority list but it's on there. Do you find it much better than Chuck Taylors? That's the other thin I was considering, but the flat bottom has me a little concerned.
What brand do you have?
Chucks have zero heel (this is, there is no rise relative to the toe), and they worked perfectly fine for me to squat and deadlift in. I find that having some heel is useful for the O-lifts, especially at take off, and when finishing in a very deep squat. They also allow you to engage your quads a bit more in these positions, which can be very useful since the upright pulling and squatting positions take some of the tension out of the hamstrings.
You can gauge how useful they might be when you overhead squat. If you can sit on your ankles with decent weight overhead *and* you have no tendency to come off your heels, you may be just fine in Chucks.
I have Botevs, which I'm not sure I would recommend. Poor construction for the price.
I'm tempted to give these a shot soon. Get in touch if you want to place a combined Werksan order.
Hmnmm, would be interested. I definitely have a problem coming off my heels when OHSing, more so than with front or back squats.
What have you heard about Werksan vs Dowin shoes?
Don't know about the Werksans. The older Do-wins had a pretty high heel, and I think they are better if you have wider feet.
Some more info here.
The history of weightlifting shoes is a very worthwhile read.
