Re-learning running

I made a drunken wager Thursday night. It involves my running the Brooklyn half-marathon on May 30. Yeah, I know, that's what I get for betting drunk. Nothing I can do about it now. Oh, and I'm pretty sure a cape and a Zorro mask are required at some point.

Now, I don't do much metcon (none over 15 minutes in a long time), and I haven't run anything greater than 5km outside in probably years, so this is surely gonna suck. I don't have any time to train for this, but I'll probably try out three runs to 1) remind myself how to run, 2) figure out how to pace myself, and 3) run something longer than 8 miles to make sure I can finish. Today I started with two loops around Morningside Park, which measures out to about 3.2-3.3 miles. Tried to run at a consistent pace that could conceivably be maintained for a long time. Finished in 28:45, which works out to slightly less than a 9 minute mile. Probably a hair too fast?

Anyone want to run the Central Park loop (~6 miles) next weekend?

I'd be interested in that.

Aight, I'm thinking Thursday. Note that I'll be running slow though (9:30-10 minute mile).

Alright, I'll just pace myself to you. I've never run farther than 5k in one go either, so this should be interesting. What time were you thinking?
