Beach, boulder, waterfall and motorcycle

Went to check out last weekend some bouldering problems at this beach called Joatinga.
Compared to other beaches in Rio, Joatinga is quite small, but its good waves and somewhat secluded location attract an interesting crowd...

No need for a crash pad as most problems had a clean landing on the sand. We worked on three bouldering problems - the first on this rock that was slightly overhung but quite easy, with big jugs. The second follows the edge of a low rock - the holds are not as good as they seem, so its deceivingly harder. Got about halfway through it. The last problem we looked is a super short one - 5 moves to come out of a roof. Its fun, reminds me of that problem at BKB... A guy installed his beverage selling business under this "roof" so we had to be careful to avoid falling on his stuff - but he was pretty chill with us being there and used to climbers climbing over his business. We got some beta from some climber guy (in straw hat in pictures) but the two last moves to get over the roof involved pulling yourself up on a far far away crimpy hold that was just brutal...

The best thing about bouldering in the beach in 100 degree weather is jumping in the sea afterwards. To make it even better, we decided after leaving the beach to go up to this waterfall that is one of my favorite spots in the city - this area always feels like 15 degrees cooler than everywhere else.

There are actually some bolts in the rocks near the waterfall so you can set up a rappel - we didn't bring a rope this time, but my friend has done it in the past (see video - looks refreshing.):

Have to say though that the most adrenaline-full part of the day was getting from one place to another - on the back of my friend's new motorcycle. (Scary!)

Beach workout III

200 meters push throw (at least 25# marble cylinder, 6-7 paces between throws)
200 meter walk with cylinder held at shoulder height
150 meters push throw (at least 35# rock, ~4 paces between throws)

Had to stop early to finish packing. Will definitely incorporate more odd object lifting in the future.

Beach workouts I and II.

Beach workout II

100 tire flips w/ jump-through (see the beginning of the video linked here)

Wasn't a tractor tire, but definitely for a big truck. Got some funny looks.

Beach workout I

500 walking lunges (24:52)
200 meters overhead throw with some sort of coconut (~6-8#)
200 meters push throw with rock (at least 35#)

Used the lunges to gauge distance based on this workout (nicely confirmed using Gmaps Pedometer). The coconut (?) throws were fun, but throwing oddly shaped rocks is brutal (smoked the forearms). Oh, and the blistering heat was an interesting factor.
