Flipping the switch

G's desire to work out in the AM is helping me stick to a commitment to return to a regular schedule. Warming up on the roof of Coles, we discovered handy truck tires which inspired the day's workout.

Warm-up:
1/3 mi jog (~10:00 min/mile)

3 rounds of:
5 tire flips (per person, alternating)
10 burpees
1/6 mile run

Team time: 9:31

bench press
KL: 5x45, 5x95, 2x5x135
GF: 5x45, 5x135, 5x155, 1x165

Feeling pretty winded by the second round of the metcon, but good workout. Not sure of the weight of the tire, felt a bit lighter than the one Brian and I toyed with at Brooklyn Barbell but heavy enough nonetheless.

Monster truck rally

Warm-up:
500 m row (1:46)
power snatch

2-2-2-2 power snatch (95,115,125 [f2],125 [f2])
snatch (125,2x135 [f1],3x145 [f2])
clean + jerk (145,165,175,185,2x190 [fj 1-2])

"Monster truck rally"
AMRAP in 15 minutes:
6 tire flips
3 power snatch (105#)

BL & KL: 9 rounds on the dot

Great training in Brooklyn with Kenway. Snatched light to try some tweaks to fix my bar path. This resulted in lots of misses, but I may stick with a slightly more toes-out start position to bow my knees out to allow a better bar sweep on the first pull. Cleans felt good.

Ever since watching a video of one of Mark Twight's workouts using tractor tires, I've always wanted to try a metcon that involved flipping giant tires. Well, the good folks at Brooklyn Barbell acquired not one, but two, massive tractor tires. Well, we just had to use one of those tires, right? We cooked something up modeled off of one of the events from Hybrid Athletics' Winter Challenge. Thankfully we had the good sense to drop the weight and reps on the power snatches (I initially thought 115# and four reps; man am I glad we changed that!). We alternated tire flips until we complete six apiece, which actually turned out to give just enough rest that we didn't pause much at all during the entire 15 minutes. Awesome.

Beach workout II

100 tire flips w/ jump-through (see the beginning of the video linked here)

Wasn't a tractor tire, but definitely for a big truck. Got some funny looks.
