A little too intense: Texas, week 5, intensity
Warm-up:
good mornings
front squats
5-4-2-2-2-2 low-bar back squat (135, 185, 225, 240, 250, 260[f2])
1x10 suitcase deadlift (95, 5 per arm)
1x10 hang power clean (95)
2x10 standing Russian twist (45, 55)
1x10 shoulder press (45)
1x10 box jumps (~24")
Last lifting day before dropping the iron for a week and heading to Portugal. My right knee was a little sore from the sprints yesterday, so I kept the increment small over last week - correctly as it turns out, as I stalled the last rep @260 near the bottom. Never felt quite right today, mostly tightness in the lower back.
Squats are going up on the Texas program, though - I'm over my previous 1RM (and far over my more recent lame attempts)! Ultimate goal is to get my squat more in line with my deadlift numbers, anything around 300 would be satisfying.
The recent increased core and posterior chain work made the suitcase deadlifts feel far easier than the last time Brian and I messed around with these (a long time ago). The standing Russian twists were gratifyingly intense, next time I'll have to remember to grip above the plate rather than below.
