Really playing hooky
3 hr (5.0 mi) hike from Muir woods, skirting Mt Tam, down to the beach.
Just north of San Francisco, in Marin county, at Mt Tamalpais State Park. Amazing hiking through coastal redwood groves, over ridgelines and Mt Tam, and down to the sand and sea. Looking back south you get incredible views of San Francisco and the bay beyond the headlands, with the coastal fog being burned off by the sun as it sweeps in from the ocean.

Damn, I'm jealous. Sure do miss hiking through the redwoods.
I knew you'd appreciate it, you can see clear down past SF to the coast south of the city from the hills around Mt Tam. We also walked out on the Golden Gate for a little gawking and hanging out in the clouds...
Those pictures are gorgeous. Especially the tree picture, that looks incredible.
