Wow, I remember seeing this as a kid. This says two things to me:

1) The will can be stronger than what the body can handle.

2) This is not always a good thing.

Ya, the woman that passes her like 10 yards from the finish line was first place.

That took guts, first Ironman and all. Notice how it goes from day to night; that's a long time to be exerting yourself.

Yeah, first timer doing it as "research" for her thesis on exercise physiology. Gutsy. There was much less information on training and performance in such extreme conditions then, I'm sure she was just drinking water and eating bananas during the race.

I remember her saying later that if she had tried to walk the last few hundred yards, rather than run it, she'd probably have made it.

Did you see in the clip where people are trying to support her, and she was brushing them away, like "don't help me, I want to finish"?
