Wow, the transition to ice in the Ryan Nelson solo looked super sketchy! It gave me chills.

OK, question for you guys: why didn't he just START on the ice? All that upside-down traversing on the rock looked extremely hard, and the ice goes all the way to the ground.

I think in this case it was exactly because it was hard. Mixed climbing is apparently the rage nowadays. Some interesting insight here.
I kind of think of mixed climbers as trad climbers with a sport climber's mentality (or lack therof, ha).
I kid, I kid...
I am with Brian and Kenway on this one. Its a bit like: "why climb the vertical face of a mountain when you could hike to the top using a different path?" Because we can!
