Old fogies rowing

Woke up at 4 AM for to roadtrip up to Cambridge, MA. Despite my denials, it was my 15th college reunion and I met up with some old teammates for the vaunted MIT Alumni Crew challenge. Rowed a heat and a finals: never has 500m (really more like 450m) felt so damn long, it's amazing how the technique can come back quickly but the conditioning just won't be there. We managed not to embarrass ourselves, got in some stretches of rowing with a semblance of grace, and returned to the dock unscathed - not a bad day!

My brother pre-declares victory as we wait under the Mass. Ave. bridge for the start:

A motley crew indeed:

rowers have about the same sense of hygiene and cleanliness as climbers...

i knew a rower who broke his watch band in college and just duct taped the thing together on his wrist, i think he figured that once it was too dirty to wear it would just fall off.
