CF Elements #1
Went to the first elements class today.
CFWU x3
workout:
Tabata squats, score is least amount of reps completed in a single round
SS: 12 (21-20-19-18-16-14-12-13)
I think they'll also be posting the results for the whole class over on their blog. I'll update the specific link when it comes up. We also worked alot on the form of the squat, and went over some interesting drills to keep your knees from overshooting your feet. Basically, you squat standing directly in front of a wall. They called it a 'self-correcting' exercise. Only downside (upside?) is you can't use your arms to counter balance so I ended up falling over quite a bit till I got the hang of it.

Did you use a medicine ball as a depth marker? Just curious if you found that you had previously been shorting squats or whether it felt the same.
Scottle, why is it hard to use your arms for balance? Is it because you're just sitting too far back?
Yeah we used a medicine ball for depth. Since I'm taller I think it was a little below parallel. It didn't feel too odd, so I think I must be doing them right more often than not. If anything it was nicer with the medicine ball because I knew how far down to go and wasn't as concerned with overshooting.
As far as the reason you couldn't use your arms for the wall squats it was because you were facing the wall, with your feet almost touching it. Your arms basically dead hang between your legs as you go down. The whole idea is to make you stick your butt out so you engage the posterior chain instead of just using the quads.
