Geology class, mud and the pedophilia fence
Discovered that making plans late at night to go climbing early the next morning is not a good idea. Kenway, Joana and I missed our train out to New Rochelle, which turned out to be a blessing though as it was beautiful outside. So instead we met up at Rat Rock to do some bouldering in the sun (with some cardboard and a sleeping bag to catch our falls). Alas, between the Geology class studying the strange markings (chalk) on that wonderfully slick Central Park rock and the Midwestern high-school class on their senior trip we quickly discovered that things hadn't quite dried out since Friday. After plastering our shoes in mud, we decided we'd wander around the park instead (jumping fences and doing a few pistols along the way). We ended up over by Wollman rink to people-watch, where our enjoyment of ice-skating in the middle of NYC was ruined by the sketchy pedophile-type to our right who turned to us with a crazy grin and whispered 'You never know what you can find out here' and walked away (worst part was the wink-wink). Kenway didn't feel clean anymore and left to go meet some friends.
Joana and I weren't ready to give up on climbing just yet, so after a bit of lunch we headed over to MPHC. Bouldered for a long while, working on everything from V0-V3. A nice change cause the problems are very different from what we are used to. Mostly vertical, very technical, with lots of small holds and neat features. I thought the climbing was really thought-provoking, lots of V3s with one move where you go 'Huh?'. Afterward, J led a few long traverses around their top-rope walls, and we called it day. Good times.
Some video to go with Guillaume's post mentioning Steph Davis's free solo of Pervertical Sanctuary (5.10c/11-):

We played around with the start of the Polish Traverse on rat rock - fun moves, but the slick mud on the shoes made it very frustrating.
What really upped the creepiness quotient on the fellow at the pedophilia fence, though, was the fact that he said it while glued to the viewfinder of his videocamera...
Steph Davis: wow. Free soloing a climb that she says has loose rock, that gave me the chills.
That climb just blows my mind.
Yeah, my palms started sweating when the camera panned back. Holy crap she was HIGH!
Lol, forgot bout creepy-dude's video camera.
