Good climbing at TRC with Guillaume, Kristy and Eric. G and I tried to replicate our last productive session and lead 9 (green), 9 (green), 10 (white). We literally jogged between climbs, and while the first two went easily, the 10 was a poor pick. Pumpy, with a a very thin holds at the finish (G got it, I dnf). We then did 10- (camo) and I went for the pink 10b while G climbed a 12 with Miss Pssst (which she climbed in amazing style; I particularly liked the 'massage one forearm with your hip while holding onto a tiny piece with the other' technique). 10b felt really awkward, and I didn't finish, so I returned to the white 10 and finished that instead. Eric got a couple of leads in, finishing the night on 'Super funtime', while Kristy brought her forearms back into fighting shape.
Oh, and this is the second time my calf and instep has cramped while pulling up into a roof. WTF is up with that? Does anybody understand cramping and how to avoid it???

Nice vid man, the climb looks really sustained.
We should come up with goals for 2009.
Oh, and about the cramping, maybe not enough water?
Beautiful video, Brian, thanks for sharing. I stole it for my blog as well.
Regarding cramps: my wife Rebecca used to have chronic cramping in her feet, particularly when it was cold. When we first started climbing, she usually needed to take 10 minutes on an elliptical or something just to get her blood warm, or she'd cramp up as soon as she put her shoes on. Then my mom suggested she try taking ZMA (Zinc/Magnesium), and BOOM! cramps gone. Amazingly effective.
So try that.
Perhaps new shoes?
Perhaps new feet?
All joking aside, I used to have tons of calf and foot cramps. They got especially bad as the crossfit stuff wore on. Stretching helped, but my grandmother recommended taking quinine (drinking tonic water). That stuff is disgusting (and sugary!) but the cramps melted away. I'd go with Daniel's suggestion first though. Or you can eat more salad greens. That a good way to get Zinc and Magnesium too.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will not do a controlled experiment, but will instead try everything suggested at once (except for the new feet ...).
Beautiful climb! And very nicely shot. She looks so smooth in her movements--reminds me of Ms Pssst. I liked the way you had to see to move way out to the left before moving back right to make that last clip before the anchor.
