Texas, week 14, recovery
Warm-up:
Zercher squat (triples to 155#)
3x3 Zercher squat (205)
2x2 front squat (205)
3x5 shoulder press (100)
3-2-3-2-2 deadlift (hook grip; 225, 275, 295, 315, 335)
1 mile run (8:04)
Man, those Zerchers are tough! Other lifts felt great, nice & easy. I think I'm gonna drop the mixed grip for my deadlift; it has no carryover to the clean, and I always feel like the asymmetry is bad for the spine and shoulders. Today I used just a touch of chalk, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the double at 335# was very easy double-overhanding with a hook grip.
It's always more fun when there's someone else lifting heavy in the other rack (as opposed to curling with straps). I wasn't disappointed today when this guy came over wearing Oly shoes and a shirt that read 'Triathlete - Bench, Squat, Deadlift'. Turns out he was visiting from North Carolina, where he's getting a graduate degree in Strength & Conditioning. Dude was high-bar squatting (ass-to-ankles) 10x405! Good between-set conversation ranging over hook-gripping, CNS failure, periodization and Parkinson's. A great workout made better by good company.

That sounds awesome. I certainly never expect that sort of thing from the random people at Coles, though sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised. How often does this happen at NYSC?
Very rarely. There are basically two other powerlifters that I see regularly. One trains some sort of Westside hybrid, so it's cool when he comes causes he brings about 50# in chains.
