Workin' the squat
CFWU x 3
(subbed ring dips for push-ups... ouch)
5x5 back squat
SS: 135, 145, 2x155, 165
I got to really work on my squat form today. I've been reading some of the Starting Strength wiki and trying to assimilate what I've learned in the crossfit classes thus far to try and improve my squat. I think I've definitely improved because I can actually feel my hamstring engaging when I rise from the hole, which is a new experience for me I think. Also, I really focused on driving through my heels and holding my breath to retain tightness throughout my core. Holding the breath really helped. Here's the results from last time.
Also, not content to wait for Kenway's rings to resurface (...) I went ahead and ordered a pair of my own. I had to try them out today and I'm pretty excited about their devastation potential. I ended up getting the metal ones from rogue fitness instead of the elite plastic ones Kenway got. I'm not sure which ones I like better yet. The look of the rogue fitness rings is cooler (matte black brushed metal) but they're metal which makes them kind of heavy to carry around.

Nice Scott! I remember that one thing that made a big difference for me was trying to fixate on the floor in front of me rather than involuntarily looking up at the ceiling. It takes a little getting used to, but worked really well for me.
Huh, that's interesting cause I read that's what Rippetoe recommends as well. I didn't actually try that this time, mostly because I'm always concerned about my chest caving. I'll have to give it a go next time around though.
lol, I tried that cue based on the Rippetoe critiques I've read on his forums.
Nice work Scottle. What did you do with the rings?
I subbed ring dips for the push-ups in the CFWU
