The price of stupidity is falling

10x1 front squat
SS 175, 185, 195, 195(f), 5x185, 190
ED 2x195, 205, 210, 215, 3x220, 225, 230

KL's alternative (stupidity-induced, see below) workout:
10x1 weighted pull-up
25,30,35,40,45,50,3x60,65

3x10 shoulder press
45,65,70#

cooldown (all):
4x8 135# deadlift

Must have been itching to do front squats with Scott and Eric today, in this brand new year of possibilities, because during warmups I thought I'd try Brian's recent vid post offering - one-armed kipping pull-ups. Needless to say, I underestimated the grip needed and on the first kip ended up not just horizontal, but a good 3 feet above the ground. Luckily, the iron crossbar and my ass united to cushion the blow. I'm going to be sore tomorrow but don't think (right now) I broke anything. In any case, my glutes were seizing up so I grudgingly substituted pullups for the front squats.

At least it only cost me my dignity, a strained pinky, and a swollen lower back; remember the good ol' days when stupidity cost an entire ACL?

Man, Kenway, what happened to the wisdom?

The funniest thing I've read all day.

Nice work on the squats guys. Eric, howd the knee feel going deep?

It was awesome. And strangely quiet. Eric was standing near us and didn't see it at all. He tried it on the pullup bar on the squat rack (which is angled down slightly) and when he went to go up, his hand slid right off the hold. It looked like it hurt but he didn't make any noise at all and just got up.

Knee was good. No pain, not weirdness. Only thing was the slight clicking that's become endemic to it and needs to be reassessed.
I actually did a little aikido yesterday and it felt ok with one exception during a turning move. I think (hope) it's just not been asked to do anything like that for a while. Still, going to work back into aikido slowly and see how it goes. I'm also going to hit them up for a last few week of PT and get an eval.
Funniest moment for me (having not seen the incident) was when Kenway walked off quietly looking like he was going to pass out... and Scott said 'oh, he tried to do a one-handed pull-up...'
