Another great afternoon of climbing with Eric and Kenway at The Rock Club. We got there right after opening (Eric just missing his free lunch), and were treated with free reign of the place for a little while.

Lots of ambition today, as we all chose long climbs with large (occasionally multiple) overhangs and little opportunity for rest. After a couple of warmups, I chose a few 5.8-5.9s above my ability; lots of fun, not too technical, but ultimately too long. Ample opportunity to practice flagging though, and highlighted endurance and good sequencing for me. Eric worked hard on the same routes and is ready to belay next time around. Kenway ticked off an awesome 5.10 that ran all the way up the arch to top out at the highest point in the gym. Hopefully, he didn't mess his finger up any more.

Tried some bouldering after about 2.5 hours of climbing. Fun, but too tired to really accomplish anything. Ratings are pretty stiff. I love this gym; we didn't climb any of the same routes (in fact, some of the ones we looked to repeat had been replaced already).

Some crazy flying squirrel base-jumping:

Hey Kim, thanks for dropping by the site. Several of us just came back from a work/climbing trip to Southern California - hope the weather is warming up out there!

Brian, weather might be a little rough for the Gunks this weekend - looks like possible snow today and rain/snow during the week. We should keep an eye on things...

However, a possible alternative: the Delaware Water Gap, specifically Mt. Tammany. Looks like some good adventurous easy moderates, like Triumvirate(5.4). I'll see if I can find a guidebook around.

Will it be any warmer in NJ?

Not sure about the cold, but I think the chance of precipitation is going to be lower. Never been there to climb, but it's a viable alternative if the Gunks are unclimbable.

Of course, so is New Rochelle...

Would love to get outdoors if the weather agrees, but would happily go to New Rochelle if Earth does not cooperate.

The Water Gap looks to be about 1.5 hours drive, so whichever looks better!
