Urca is a neighborhood that sits under the Sugar Loaf in Rio, and is kind of the epicenter of Rio's climbing.
There is a jogging track that cuts through the Sugar Loaf with loads and loads of bouldering problems that are easy to access. Plus, its close to where I live...
Thing is, the boulder problems are all quite hard (average V7)... so my friend and I elected one of the "easiest" ones to work on.
Its a long traverse called Petro-Tere (named after a well known hike path that crosses over the mountains going from a city called Petropolis to another city called Teresopolis). I think the hardest move is like a V5, but because it is quite long, and to consider having done it entails going all the way from one side and back without stopping... its quite ambitious for us. We'll see what happens by the end of summer.
A particularity of this problem is there is a tree smack in the middle of it, perfectly positioned for a stop and rest...
Here is a video with some guy on this problem:

Great shots, JK! How hard is it with the humidity there?
ReplyDeleteI love that we are working out winter projects as you work on your summer projects!
ReplyDeleteAt least you have some shade ...
humidity is really brutal... but I'm sort of getting used to it. Sticking more to bouldering for now to have some shade!
